I love Thanksgiving!
I love the food, the family, the friends, I love the San Diego Fall Weather... it's a great time to stop and give thanks.
Grace.
Even the news reporters on all the channels are pausing from their reporting to express thanksgiving; a little "the cup is half full" from everyone.
You don't see that everyday! Refreshing.
So, here's my list... (Kim, I couldn't help but borrow some of yours! :)
1. I am indebted to, and give thanks for... Mr. Yoichi Wakayama. Not only the faithful bread winner of our home, but the man who is committed to the Word, and tucks Nixon and I in every night. The man who knows everything about me, and still loves me and spoils me everyday. What a wonderful companion in life.
2. My parents and brother Ryno. Gosh, where would I be without them? They are an extension of God's love and His outstretched arms. They support and believe in Yoichi and me, and they crazily and insanely love our little Nixers. How can I also not be thankful for all the homecooked meals, boxes of diapers, Costco treats (aka "Kirkland!"), cute tops from Macy's (just because!), spontaneous and reliable babysitting... and their instilling of conservative family values in me.
3. Kimberly Nguyen. I'm David, and she's Jonathan. (Why am I David? Because I'm WAY bossier, and I sin WAY more than her.) This girl, I tell ya'... she'll cook you homemade chicken noodle soup when you're sick (and she doesn't even cook!), she'll rock your fussy newborn baby for hours when you're sick in bed with mastitis, and she'll come spend the night when you're husband is outta town and you chicken-out of staying home alone. This girl gives and gives of herself-- and thus began our close friendship; a competition to outgive each other.
4. Good Girlfriends; WOF, Spice Girls; the "inner core" that provides encouragement and accountability. And good Mommy advice! xoxo.
5. Play Groups; a safe place to vent Mommy stress and get good feedback! And super cute buddies for Nixon.
6. My Aunt Cathy, aka Catherine the Great. Good Role Model. I'm thankful for what I learn from her; she hand writes letters, sends thoughtful gifts, takes care of her family, can put on a good spread, uses doilies, knits sweaters, and is hostess with the mostess.
7. Last but not least, I'm thankful to God for my son, Mr. Nixon James Wakayama. My 9month old little monster! :) He lights up my life, he's my little partner in crime. A favorite author said it best about her own little baby... "He's so beautiful and I feel such a desperate love and protectiveness that my chest tightens with it."
Tomorrow, as we dive into our turkey and stuffing... let's remember to say grace and lift up our little lists of gratitude. Blessings to you in this special season!
